About Last Night

Sometimes Palm Springs is too gay, and sometimes it is just wildly gay enough. Last night was the second kind.

In a beautiful step away from the daily throb of news and news spin, last night we stumbled upon a group of gay men (Facebook "Among Friends") who have a monthly old-movie screening with mildly interactive moments. Mildly interactive, meaning that a few times the audience repeats what is being repeated on the stage, or they throw out bags of peanuts when an actor on screen calls bullshit by saying "nuts!", or they wander across the stage during the big fashion show number.

Well, we went to see The Women (the 1939 version) last night, and it was a hoot. Hoot is the right word. It was old-fashioned, PG-rated, good times. It wasn't all dirty, or draggy, or disingenuous, just a bunch of old guys (my 67 years was about average - on the other hand, Ed, not yet 60, was in the "chicken" camp) laughing at an old black and white movie together. And doing that stuff together is soooooo much more fun than doing it at home in front of your screen.
